So useful! The information is hard to find on their site. I was on hold for 20 minutes tonight to cancel my insider account.
Thanks. I agree, very useful. Could not find it for the life of me.
Muchos gracias, Steve. Not as painful as I thought when cancelling, a lot easier than AOL many years ago, but still annoying since they have no information about it onsite. But the woman who picked up the phone was pleasant. When she asked why I was cancelling, I told her the truth: I went to college with Bill Simmons and didn’t want to give that putz any more of my money. He was a jerkweed back then, but his recent articles make it clear that Hollywood has turned him into an uber-jerkweed.
Thanks so much for this information. I spent a good while online trying to figure out how to cancel.
Thanks for the info, luckily I got here by a google search, which was a lot easier than finding it on their website. You’d think it would be under Member Services… what an idea! Oh, and I agree with Rob’s comments on Bill Simmons too, all he does is name drop in his columns and podcast. It all gets pretty annoying after a while.
You saved my bacon. I accidentally overdrew my checking account but canceled ESPN Insider in plenty of time to avoid an overdraft fee. Thanks to you. Cheers!
Thanks. Got tired of paying $7 a month and I did was read in the NBA insider online. However, they offered me a better deal (one time $14 payment for a year), so I decided to keep it, but you basically saved me $70 and I get to keep my magazines and insider subscription. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this information. I spent a good while online trying to figure out how to cancel. I called and it took a couple of minutes.
Thanks for this post. I was able to cancel during my “free trial,” but I, too, could not find the words cancel or any phone number to call to cancel.
THANKS! This saved time for me too. Their website does not make this readily available!!
yes, i use to pay a lot of espn insider. i decided to cancel, but then they offer me 14 a year. so i decided not to cancel.
but then next year, they jacked it up to 30 something dollars. i didn’t even know.
well, now i am canceling forever. now i think about it. it’s not even worth 14 dollars / year
Thanks for posting! Got out of my espn insider rip off $30 resub.
Worked like a charm. Thanks.
AWESOME…they offered $14.97 for a year (vice $84) and $30 a year thereafter
Awesome! Thank you so much
You guys rock for putting this out there!
10 minutes: Time trying to figure out how to cancel subscription on the ESPN website.
3 Minutes: Time taken to search google, find this page, call, talk to customer support rep and wade through them trying to keep me as a customer, confirm cancelled subscription via phone
The number posted up top is to ESPN’s general customer center. Here’s the direct line to the magazine department: 1-888-267-3684. You’ll just need to confirm your member number on the magazine label and date of birth. It was simpler than I thought it would be.
Yes the 1-888-267-3684 is the correct number. M-F 8-1030 Eastern Time Sat 9-7 Eastern time are there hours
It is pathetic that you have to call in to cancel, but can subscribe on line… lame.
They do that to give you a sales pitch to stay. I am battling them right now to cancel. I am disabled and it is hard for me to call from my house, as I have no signal. I must actually go outside and call, which is very painful for me. All they do is send me an email that it is their “policy” to call to cancel. It is for my “safety” they claim. Funny how they do not worry about your “safety” when a credit card is used. But they do when you cancel. Unbelievable.
ESPN INSIDER IS RIGGED TO RIP YOU OFF!!! First, you can’t find out how to cancel, THEN when you do figure it out you have to CALL them. WHAT A JOKE!!!!
I am going to go through dispute on my CC and waste my time there rather than with some ESPN newb. Maybe if enough people dispute the charge they will wise up.
Perfect! I had my stuff canceled in 5 min no wait!
Thanks guys!!
just canceled today, was super easy. Expected it to be a pain in the ass based off these post. Only took about 2 mins that’s all. simple.
Thank you very much, just canceled it when I noticed they charged me after the free trial. The web page simply had no enough info.
I called the 1-888-267-3684 number above, but they told me that’s just for the magazine. If you got the ESPN magazine as an adjunct to your ESPN Insider account, then you still need to call the 1-888-549-3776 number. So I was still forced to wait on hold for 40 minutes! Once I talked to someone, they offered me 50% off and no auto-renew to stay with them. No thanks! I might have to call to cancel again. On the positive side, the rep I spoke with was very nice and she was able to credit me back $14.78. Ethically, I hate this business model of purposely making you jump through hoops in hopes that you’ll bail. Once I know that’s how they operate, I refuse to do business with entities like that. UPDATE: Total time from beginning to end was 61 minutes because they had trouble issuing the credit to my MasterCard. Bye bye ESPN.
I agree with Malcolm, if you ordered through ESPN Insider, you have to call 1-888-549-3776 and then press 1. Not going to lie, the 50% discount got me, so I ended up staying. It’s worth it just to call for the 50% off.
called and canceled in about 2 minutes. Kinda feel left out I wasn’t offered any special deals to stay but whatever.
thanks so much for this info. I live in Australia and was getting money deducted each year and I was sending emails asking for it to be stopped but my emails were ignored. Money has just disappeared from my account now and I was so upset as I,m now a pensioner and can’t afford to lose this money. I just rang ESPN on the number you provided and they have arranged for the money to be reimbursed and the phone call only took 5 mins. so thank you.
